The Redstockings of the Women's Liberation Movement is a radical feminist group founded in 1969 by Ellen Willis and Shulamith Firestone.[1] Redstockings formed after the mother organization, New York Radical Women (NYRW), splintered into many other groups after disagreements arose regarding ideology, leadership, and philosophy.[2]The name "Redstockings" is a portmanteau of the derogatory term bluestockings, often used against feminists and intellectual women, and the color red, symbolizing revolution.
